DANGER TO PET BIRDS

THE FOLLOWING FELLOW LIVING CREATURES CAN BE DANGEROUS TO PET BIRDS:
  • Humans who are not used to being around birds
  • Cats
  • Humans who are not careful
  • Dogs
  • Humans who are children (literally and figuratively)
  • Other pet birds
  • Humans who are distracted or in a hurry
  • Birds of prey
  • Humans who sleep with their birds
  • Snakes
  • Humans who are drunk or on drugs
  • Ferrets, weasels and such
  • Humans who do not watch out for their pet bird at all times
  • Raccoons, opossums and such
  • Humans who are angry at their pet bird
  • Poisonous insects
  • Humans who do not properly care for their pet bird

(In other words, humans are by far the most dangerous creatures that a pet bird will ever likely encounter)
THE FOLLOWING HOUSEHOLD APPLIANCES & FACILITIES CAN BE DEADLY TO PET BIRDS: (This is only a partial list. Be "bird alert" to other possible dangers in your environment)
  • Electrical cords
  • Sinks and tubs of water
  • Open toilets
  • Ceiling fans
  • Ovens and stove top burners
  • Scalding water in pots or from faucet
  • Heavy objects or books that could topple
  • Lids and doors to microwaves, toasters, bread boxes, etc.
  • Gas leaking from heater, stove or other appliance
  • Toxic fumes from overheated non-stick cookware

THE FOLLOWING HOUSEHOLD PRODUCTS & FOOD ITEMS CAN BE DEADLY TO PET BIRDS: (This is only a partial list. Be "bird alert" to other potential disasters waiting to happen)
  • Cleansers, soaps and detergents
  • Gasoline, kerosene and other fuel-oils
  • Caustic agents such as liquid drain cleaners
  • Insecticides, rodent poisons and similar chemicals
  • Paint, thinners and similar products
  • Alcoholic beverages
  • Chocolate
  • Prescription and non-prescription drugs
  • Rancid or moldy food

  • Balsam pear (seeds, outer rind of fruit)
