PETSTATIONERS

Listed below are some of the recent visitors to PetStation. We are very happy that these folks stopped by and shared a bit about their pets with us.

I am a cat owner with a cat who hasn't eaten in 4 days, the result of her first move and cross country trip...nothing tempts her..she is drinking water...how long before I should really worry?

I have a 14 month Rottweiler got him at 7 weeks best companion I ever had, he is very well mannered and loves
people,I know these dogs have a bad rep, but I am a serious believer of how they are raised and socialized they are very demanding of quality time and consistency with those two ingrediants you will have a great dog as a pet.

If you have access to AOL, Patrick McDonnell (creator of the great pet-related comic strip Mutts) is participating in a live chat with Mutts fans and other animal lovers on America Online (AOL Keyword: Live) tonight, Friday, April 30th at 8:00 p.m. ET to help promote "Pet Adoptathon '99." (He also created this week's Mutts Shelter Stories especially to help raise awareness of the Adoptathon.) Log on and talk to him!
It's a REALLY good cause, by the way, so if you have room for a loveable dog or cat in your life, here are the official details:
"Pet Adoptathon" is the single largest lifesaving event in the world for dogs and cats, promoting pet adoption, humane education and animal care. During "Pet Adoptathon '99," participating shelters around the world will remain open for 36 hours straight - from Saturday, May 1 at 9:00 a.m. until Sunday, May 2 at 9:00 p.m. - so that people can come in and adopt a new, loving member of the family and help save a life. Last year, the North Shore Animal League and its 1,300 "Pet Adoptathon '98" participating shelters found 20,674 needy pets new homes. For the name of the participating shelter nearest you, call the North Shore Animal League's toll-free hotline: 1-877-BE-MY-PAL (1-877-236-9725) or visit its Web site at http://www.nsal.org.

Animals are my life, my life is animals, and I would do anything for them. I know vets are really busy people but if there are any out there with a bit of spare time, please drop me a letter, as I would love to hear from someone who has lots of knowledge about animals. My dream is to be a veterinarian when I grown up, and that's what I'm going to do, let nothing stop me.

I thought your article on protection dogs was silly and rediculous.
Using the same logic, it would be pointless to have a police department since they cannot protect you in this age of ICBM missles, antitank guns being portable in nature etc. Nor should one have guns in the house because statisticaly there is a greater chance that someone will be killed. If protection dogs are such a stupid idea, then why do all the police departments have police dogs that go in and do empty building searches etc. The truth is that if an individual has the will, there is nothing that he or she can't do. True, if an individual wanted to break into your home carrying a firearm, they could eliminate a dog. But I do not believe that this has ever been done. And, just for your information, "back in the old days", it was almost as easy to eliminate dogs with swords, spears etc. However from a tactical standpoint, talking about the possibility is a lot easier than doing it. Were you more educated in canine history, you would know that dogs many civilizations had "war dogs." The Conquistadors had an army of war dogs that defeated the indigenous people of south and central america. Records show that these dogs were as if not more effective than individual soldiers. Any K-9 police officer would tell you that one police dog in riot control work is the equivalent of 10 officers--even when these people are carrying bats and bricks! And, if as you say, protection dogs are so ineffective, then why are insurance companies "so paranoid" (your words)about dog bites etc. Obviously since they are ineffective there is no harm. You have a right to your opinion. But you wind up losing a considerable degree of credibility by silly overexaggerations. Your point would be far easier to listen to and accept if you were not as concerned about "winning" as you were about educating someone with a different point of view. I happen to own one of the working breeds. I never lock my doors and I have no reason to. And, I certainly feel comfortable sleeping at night, knowing that he is by my side. You have a right to your opinion but I think you certainly went overboard on the "taking a baseball bat" routine. And, while I do not have a "trained protection dog," you are welcome to either come into my home with a baseball bat at any time you choose and test your theory. I think you will find out that talk is one thing, doing is another. For example, one dog that I know of was shot nine times by a police officer's 9mm handgun and still managed to inflict serious injury on a police officer. Every police officer that I ever spoke to has said that without question the greatest deterrent to burglaries rapes and assaults is a working dog. If you have ever tried to fight a dog (I speak from personal experience) you will find that they are not like humans. Their muscle mass is such that they can take far greater punishment and pain than humans can. Any Veterinarian will tell you that in accidents involving dogs, they are amazed at how much physical trauma a dog can endure--trauma which would many times kill a human being.

I have an 80 lb. German Shepherd named Mac, and an 8lb. grey tabby named Cuddles. Mac is nines year old and Cuddles is five. I also had acalco named Tranny who past away a few months ago. I'm trying to find another calico kitten to adopt. Nothing fancy, no papers or anything. Tranny was just a barn cat that showed up when she was about 6 weeks old. She won the heart of my husband . They were best buddies. She is sadly missed. If anyone in the Louisville area can help me find a calico kitten it would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance,

I have a 4 yr. old English Spot house rabbit. She has free run of the entire house. She's little box trained and has a litter box upstairs and one downstairs. She's goes out in the back yard when the weather is good, and when I'm there to keep an eye on her. I have a 6ft. privacy fence, therefore, she's pretty much protected from predators. She love eating grass and her favorite thing is dandalions. She eats only fresh green veggies and some fruits (favorite is bananas). She's been fixed and is spoiled rotten and a real joy to me.

I was wondering two things: Firstly, I have the sweetest dog named Murray. We go to a 'doggie park' where dogs are allowed to run in the park on their own. It's a great place. I also have another dog named Mike. Murray is supposably part Retriever part Chow. He's pretty large, about 75 pounds. We got him at the shelter. He was sooo shy and sad. He's been with us over a year now and is extremely happy and spoiled. At doggie park, though, right when we were ready to leave, he began growling horribly at another dog. He was almost violent. I've never seen Murray behave this way. I have seen him growl at strangers before, but not like this. It made me sad and disapointed in him. I reprimanded him and he stopped. But when I began to tell him 'no', he almost looked like he would bite me, but I could tell in his eyes that he snapped out of it when he saw me. Why do you think he behaved this way? Any opinions would really be aprreciated.
Second question: I have a long haired black cat who is about 15 years old. He's begining to have kidney failure. However, his eyes are always dialated. The vet told me that he was probably blind. When I took him home, I did all kinds of test to see if he could see - I'm sure he could. No doubt in my mind. But why would his eyes stay dialated like they are? Does anyone know? Thanks for any comments and/ or opinions.

" Rabbit's need caring people with loving homes."
Easter is comming and once again many people will over breed rabbit's to sell without caring about the future of the animal when it out grow's it's cuteness or is no longer wanted as a family pet. Rabbit's make great pet's if given the chance and cared for properly. The sad thing is that more than 90 percent of them along with many other rabbit's already homeless and abandoned will all know death before they know love. Please don't over breed these wonderful animal's. Many people will make a profit off these animal's without giving any thought toward the future destiny of the animal itself. Learning to care for a rabbit is easy. Learning more about them is the best way to start. Parent's should alway's be with their kid's when any animal is being held. Many rabbit's get scared, they will scratch and want to be put down. Most rabbit's will out grow their " kicky-feet stage" and along with being held
at least once daily and with some one on one attention
by the care giver, a forever friendship will be born.
If you have questions about caring for rabbit's, you can e-mail me! Thank You and please don't breed rabbit's, there are already so many of them out there now
that need a good home and someone to love them
their whole life long... Nlang1998

I don't have my pet yet, I'm trying to find a reputable breeder at the present. The puppy I'm thinking of is a Maltese, I have the AMA list. I would like to have my puppy my June 14th week. If you can help in any way it would be appreciated. This is the most crucile time in getting a good quality dog, so you can eliminate a alot of
problems for the future. I also have a home E-mail which is
katsau@ccpl.carr.org Thank you for your help in this matter. Do you know anything about the couple on the net names are Jay & Bev Bianco, are they reputable? I just don't see their names on the AMA list. Mrs. Saunders

hi. i am very interested in the way that animals can help people. i call it animal therepy. i am 17 and will be graduating in 2000. i do not know what i want to do when i am done school, but i want to go into this animal therepy. i do not know how i could do this because i have not heard of anything secondary schools that offer this. i am interested in helping humans with problems and conditions using animals. for instance, riding horses helps treat the symptons of MS. not many people are aware of these talents performed by animals, and i would like to help people become aware. if anyone reading this knows of anyway they can help me, please email me. i will gladly email you back. i have searched and searched and come up with nothing! thank you !!! =)

We like Pet Station! We have a 12-13 year old randomly bred medium-sized black & white (and now gray) dog. Probably beagle terrier mix. He was rescued from a shelter when he was 2-3 yrs old and has traveled with us moving to 5 different states and vacationing all over the NE and Canada. Don't know what we'd do without him. We like all animals and have been busy creating all our friends animals in stained glass. Keeps us busy.

We recently acquired a female boxer of about 1 year old.
She seems to have intestinal upset at least every two weeks. The vet says she has a touch of pancreatitis. She is now on medication. Is this common with Boxers? Do they have a delicate system? Must I be very, very, cautious in ever giving her a bit of people food treats? I would love to hear from someone who has had a boxer or has raised one.

The males are: Selwich's Banker Alan (4 years) Selwich's CEO Greenspan (4 years) and Selwich's Denim Okie (2 years). The females are Selwich's Chinese Chee-Cha (3 years) Selwich's Denim Dokie (2 years) Selwich's Concerto Harmony (1½ years) and Selwich's Bright Hope Starlet. Hi! I have four children ages 11, 9, 3, and 14 mos and thought it would be fun for them (us) to have a dog. At Christmas, we bought an 8-month old female german sheppard. She's a very affectionate and loveable dog, however, sometimes this bothers me. She actually demands attention and pushes her way to come between the baby and me. Sometimes she goes to snip at the baby, and today she actually went to snip at me when I picked up the baby instead of her. If the baby cries, sometimes she goes to snip at him. When she behaves this way, I tell her no and then put her in her cage. I would like her to be out and about with us, but she doesn't seem to be calm. Another thing that bothers me is how she constantly searches for food around the table. Is this normal? This is my first dog and I don't know what the difference is between a dog that needs training or something that is just the dog's nature. We take her for three walks a day and she gets to play in the yard during the daytime. She is obediet with come and sit, but we are about to start teaching her more advanced commands (once the weather warms up). I love the dog and am very glad to have her, but she doesn't come before the kids. I would appreciate some advice. Thanks very much!

No Kill Date. Today's Date2/26/1999
New life saving shelter for
family pets in an emergency
The Pet Emergency Disaster Shelter! A new product designed to help a pet survive during an
emergency or natural disaster. Allowing the owner to safely transport a pet while in an
emergency situation. During emergencies many residential buildings are abandoned by humans
attempting to avoid injury. Most humans must abandon their domestic pets particularly if the
means of escape cannot conveniently accommodate the pets. Since conventional outdoor pet
shelters positioned directly on the ground do not provide adequate protection, i.e. , flood
waters. The pet is required to seek high ground, such as a rooftop, to avoid drowning.
The American Humane Association shows that 68.9% of Americans own pets.
According to CNN 38% of families have children but 43% have pets. 100% of all Americans
live in a disaster zone of some kind. The assistant director of the animal industry for the Florida
Department of Agriculture, Joel Knight, states " Animals impact whether people are going to
leave during an emergency or not. And Florida is one of the first states to address the animal
issue".
PEDS is a self contained unit with the ability to float and it sets up in minutes. The
information card provided is completed ahead of time and placed in the provided pocket.
MORE
Inflate the dome, position a baggie in the waste hole and supply with food and water. Place the
animal inside and zip closed. The PEDS unit can be carried, towed or floated with the family
during evacuation and secured in a safe place.
Help save the lives of countless animals with the Pet Emergency Disaster Shelter. For
additional information contact Kim Luiz at Flaar Management Dept_____, Seaside, CA 93955.

Hi there Friends, I like this very much. Here in the Valley
it is a hard fight to get people to care about the many strays. and to get a spay-neuter program going. We have two dogs and three cats in a small mobile home. We lost one beloved old girl to six mos of leukemia in treatment. Nothing more could be done for Lady. We have Bonnie, a Cairn and Dusty, a rescued Shepherd, who was abused by his owner because he was not iterested in learning to attack anyone. He has had a problem with men for the two years we have had him. He is getting much better due to his daily runs in a fenced area with a friends Shepherd girlfriend.
He finally sees that all men are not bad. Today, while out walking, a man who was passing by wanted to pet him. Dusty allowed this! Anyone near Brownsville , please contact us at the above add. Thanks

I have a whole family of dogs! First of all, back in 1993, I found a little short-haired Chihuahua female (Rosita). I loved her so much that the next year I bought a male (Honcho). In 1996, they had a 3-pup litter! Two males and a female. I sold the males, kept the female (Juanita) and bought 3 new male pups that year (Sanchez, Bruno, and Pedro). In 1997, Rosita and Honcho had 5 little girls (Nina, Rosa, Maria, Joli, and Inez)!! Just in the beginning of January, Juanita, Nina, Rosa, Maria, Joli and Inez were bred. Sanchez will have families with Nina and Inez, Bruno will have families with Juanita and Maria, and Pedro will have families with Rosa and Joli! Rosita had been spayed, and Honcho was neutered just last month. With six litters due between March 3-8, I'm going to be busy!

I have a pair of purebred German Sheperds. Both are 3 year old females. They are both white. Their names are Calista and Calipso. Before I had these two precious things, I had a German Sheperd male named Jem. His mother was purebred, regular sable, gold and black colors. His father was ½ German Shep, and ½ black lab. This dog was mostly black, with sable colored legs and muzzle. Jem, however, looked exactly like a sheperd, but he was COAL BLACK...I have never heard of this happening. He was a beautiful dog, and some people were very intrigued by this. If anyone had a similar dog, please post a message to CALINA. Thanks!

I love horses, rots, and collies. I especially love weiner dogs. I think that you need to talk about minature dogs more often so that when people are looking for them they can actually find something about the particular animal. Thanks this was kinda cool.

We have 4 pets that have "adopted" us. We have a
8 yr. old Pit Bull/Boxer Mix who still acts like a puppy and is a friend to all.
We have an 18 lb. Calico/tabby mix pussycat who only likes people when she is in the mood.
We have a small stray (8 years ago) gray russian blue cat who sleeps at the head of our bed every night.
We recently had a mama cat adopt us during her pregnancy who is a very fluffy tabby mix. Her first
delivery was somewhat traumatic for us and her when she delivered under the neighbors bushes and had all
the kittens tangled in their umbilical cords and around her tail! That was a trip to the emergency vet just to get them apart. We found good homes for all the kittens just about the time we discovered that Mama was pregnant again. We kept the kittens for 12 weeks before finding homes for them and then
immediately took the mama cat to the vet to be spayed.
All of our animals are females and they are all spayed. We did have fun raising kittens though, they are always doing something cute.

This stared when she was in heat, and I was assured that spaying wouled end this. It stopped for a while and has started again. She knows this does not please me and she also is still using the box (she is going in and outisde the box) What can I do? How can I reinforce her sue of the proper box for her wastes. I can't watch her all the time and I don't want to confime this playful, lively creature to one room. Any suggestions?

Hello, My husband and I have 2 husky-sheperds. Great dogs, love them to death!!! I also have a few questions; my 10 mo. old female has to much fun when left all by herself in the house. She has now chewed two of my throw carpets, and on one of my plants. If anything is left out that she can get to other than our regular furniture she's tore it apart. Is this just a puppy stage or do I need to take a step further and see an animal behavioralist? Also when my female Tasha and my male dog Simba(1yr.) are left alone together they usually "are in on it together". They also seem to get excited or too playful and end up tinkeling on the floor. Other than these few things, they are wonderful, obediant(most of the time) dogs. If anyone reads this and has any input, Please feel free to e-mail me. P.S. I also have 2 domestic kittens, Mia-8 mo. a brown tabby, and Shorty-81/2 mo. black and white kitty. There all my babies and I don't know what I'd do without them!!!!! Thank You so much.

I have a Border Collie (Shadow), a 20# Tabby (Kitten),
4 Cockatails, and 2 horses,(a Morgan/Appy Blaze & a
Quater Horse Cross Bandit). Most have been a rescued animal.
I spend time at a shelter & still do not know how to say no
to such sad & abused animals. I had Welsh Cross but after 1.5
years found him a good home. I make homemade treats for all
the animals & now trying to find tricks for Blaze since he
turned out to be quite a smart horse & will find something
to do if he is bored. That could be anything from playing
in the field with Shadow to running off with anything that
is not nailed down. Then its catch me if you can time.
Would love to hear from anyone who has animals. I never know
what I'm bringing home next.

I would like to say that " no animal should ever know death before it know's love." Too many animal's are born every day into this world and just as many or even more die from not being wanted, due to over breeding. Let's give home's to our pet's and all animal's born into this world " for life." With Easter comming soon, many animal's mostly rabbit's, that make wonderful pet's if given the proper love and attention, will be born and given as gift's to just be
given away or forgotten as they grow. Many of these animal's will die and be replaced by someone's uncontrolled urge to breed without caring about the animal.
Many will make a profit off these beautiful animal's and just as many will not be respondsible owner's or care giver's for the life of the animal. Thus the animal is put to sleep or is left to die if not killed, never being truly loved or wanted . All animal's are precious and and each one has the right to know LOVE... " God bless them all. "
I took in abandoned rabbit's and other pet's at my home for many year's and gave love to many that would have died cramped in a cage, abused and non responding to a humans touch for over a year's time some of them. As time went by it was I that were truly blessed to have had so many animal's to love and help live and I breed not a one.

Just found Petstation for the first time, and it looks like I'll be returning! We used to keep lots of pets, but now, apart from cold-water fish in an aquarium, we have 2 dogs, and 3 cats. The dogs are border collies; Kyle is 10+, and epileptic; he has been on medication since he was 3. He was a Rescue dog at 15 months. Rob is 6 and a big softie! The cats are Winston (6+)and Amy (1+), both Felix look-alikes, and Jasper, a brown tabby who is 3+. Apart from Rob and Winston, all are rescue pets.

I work for a a publishing company and one of the magazines we produce is for parents and kids. One page contains websites we recommend for our readers. While researching for the upcoming issue (I found your site through AOL's netfind - kids' search), I came across PetStation. I really liked it and was ready to list in in our magazine as a recommended site. However, I came across the following while perusing your site.
I clicked on "dogs" then "breed showcase" and finally "beagles." This is what is on the bottom of the page...
"This page is Not covered by copyright 1996 Beagle Ind All rights have be waived. The graphics contained in this document have been either reproduced without the express written consent of whoever made them or altered beyond my recognition. Some image elements are Copyright from the guys who did them and are used under license. And my new girlfriend's a sex fiend! ha whoever reads these disclaimers anyway... P.S. the secret password is "macross""
Should the aforementioned inappropriate text be removed from the page, please promptly let us know and we will gladly list PetStation as a recommended site in our magazine. If it is not removed, we can not list PetStation as we strive to present a "clean" forum for our readers, free from innappropriate material for our young, innocent readers.
Thank you for your time. I look forward to your reply and hope we will be listing PetStation in our upcoming issue.

Doberman Buyers Beware--White Dobermans!
WHITE DOBERMANS
The presence of white Dobermans is increasing at a much faster rate than you may be aware. There are more
and more ads in the newspapers and magazines daily We have already taken several phone calls about them
on our answering service.
Breeders of white Doberman have been reported to tell potential buyers that white Dobermans are problem
free, genetically pure, of champion pedigrees, and they do not have the health problems of regular Dobermans.
Perhaps you should know the truth about them:
They are not recognized by the AKC or the Doberman Pinscher Club of America.
They cannot be shown or receive championships.
With this information as background, your next question should be to ask "what, if anything has been
misrepresented about their overall health and do they have any problems that buyers should be aware of?" The
following problems have been reported in white Dobermans. They can range from mild to quite severe.
Missing teeth
Kidney and liver problems
Deafness
Photosensitivity (sensitive to light)
Coat loss
Open sores of the skin
Extreme shyness
Extreme aggression
So if you speak to anyone who is interested in purchasing a white Doberman, please pass on this information. It
could save them a lot of heartbreak.
LET THE BUYER BEWARE!!

Question!!! First time visiting this site. Think we have a baby squirrel in basement, but coloring is "odd". Could we have an abandoned exotic of some type? It is bit larger than chipmunk, has brownish fur (rather than the gray of adult squirrels in our area) with black line markings. Currently trying to trap. Question is, should be release it into the woods or try to verify exactly what type of critter it is? Don't want to release an exotic if we have one..... Any suggestions?

My comment of these pages is: what about traveling with your pet? whether it be cat, dog, or other? what do I take them in? does it fit under a airplane seat? or do I have to lock my loved one in the baggage hold? I have a solution but, I can't commercialize it here.

I have 2 great dogs, "Sweetie" and "Rascal". I like ALL animals, but
especially like dogs of all types. My "kids" both came from
rescue centers. Rascal came from the San Diego, CA Humane
Society 7 years ago, and we acquired Sweetie from the Denver
Dumb Friends League (I HATE that name). The dumb friends are
probably the humans as opposed to the dogs! LOL! Anyway, we
got Sweetie 3 years ago. Rascal is 8 and Sweetie is 9. They
are my life as I am disabled and don't get out of the house
very often. I don't know what I would do without them!
I think PetStation is terrific, but I sure would like to ask
Dr. Jim a question and can't figure out how to do so. I'll
tell you my question though. Perhaps you can forward it to
him or someone who can give me an answer? Please? Okay, here
goes:
My FEMALE mixed shitzu-maltese has a REAL gender confusion
problem. We Right after we got her, onn occasion, she would
try to mount my husband or I. It didn't happen very often
and we just assumed that she was trying to establish
dominance. Eventually, the problem seemed to go away
completely. Then, about a year ago, she met a male friend
of ours and she seemed to find him quite interesting,
constantly and quite forcefully trying to mount him. Every
time she sees him (a couple times a month) she begins the
behavior. However, now the situation has worsened
tremendously. "Sweetie" has begun CONSTANTLY trying to mount
my husband. She won't leave him alone!! Every time he sits
down on the couch she jumps up there and tries to mount his
arm or hand. It's unbelievable! We say "NO!" very firmly
and she stops for a minute, but then starts up again right
away. It's a constant battle to keep her off of him. She
does NOT do this to me. She did it to me only a few times
after we first brought her home from the rescue center, but
not since. "Sweetie" is a VERY intelligent and sweet dog.
Her name suits her so well. If my husband pretends to cry
when she does this, she'll stop because she thinks she's
hurting him, but then she starts it again just a minute
later. Normally, she's very submissive to us and seems to
fully understand her "place" in the family as 3rd dog
down. She thinks of ME as the boss dog, then my husband as
SECOND dog in command, and puts herself 3rd, ABOVE our
other dog RASCAL.
Why is a FEMALE dog continuing with this behavior and how
can we get her to stop it completely. It's soooo embarassing!
The other day, I had a service person come to the house to
move furniture and she kept mounting his leg. I was
obviously mortified and so was HE! My MALE dog Rascal
doesn't even do this! He does however, sometimes hump air
when he gets really, really excited about going for a ride.
THAT is pretty strange too and I don't understand THAT either!
He was fixed at 1 year of age.
Oh, by the way, Sweetie was spayed at the Dumb Friends
League 3 years ago. Prior to that, she has had at LEAST one
litter, probably many more based on her appearance - she
has a very stretched out, sagging stomach area. When they
found her wandering around in the middle of winter, she was freezing, completely
matted, starving, had a stomach tumor and had JUST had
puppies. They never found the pups. They spayed her, shaved
her and removed the tumor just a few days prior to coming
to our home.
Please HELP????

There is a lack of using available statistical data to determine how to end needless population control killing at shelters. Here are a few facts that are results of using simple arithmetic with available data. (National).
1. It is less than 1/2 of one percent of dog woners that need to spay their dogs, in addition to what is now done, to end the surplus birth rate.
2. The most valuable asset shelters have they are now throsing away. That asset is a source of dogs that they can spay and then give away (along with free licenses and whatever other inducements are needed) to get the poor, hot-spot pet owners to have altered, instead of breeding, pets. The numbers are nearly right (turnover, % poverty level dog owners) to balance birth and death rates in just one year. For every female dog spayed and free license, p[laced in a home that would otherwise adopt an unspayed female, you save over $10 for every $1 spent. And this opportunity is now thrown in the kill barrels. What a waste.
3. Owned cats only have half the kittens needed to replace owned cats that die. The problem is back door fed and feral cats. That is a societial, not an owner, caused problem. It is cheapter to TTVAR than to catch and kill because you soon refill the void.
4. If you need some help with the arithmetic, ask at BobPAWS@aol.com
5. Since the arithmetic is sound, as you can verify for yourself, there is no doubt that sooner or later this analysis will guide any and all animal welfare programs in the future. Don't be fooled by the lack of analysis and ignorance so far displayed by the humane movement.
6. This does not solve all problems, but it does solve the needless shelter killing problems.
Regards, Bob

I am a dog groomer and I have a 8 year old chocolate lab, Buster, and a 3 year old west highland white terrier, Nigel. I also have two cats, a grey siamese mix named Omar and a black domestic short hair named Cosmo. We named Cosmo after the character Cosmo Kramer on Seinfeld as he is a bit of a clutz. I am fond of all animals and hold a special place in my heart for wild animals, that is non-domesticated animals. I feel that with the ever shrinking habitat and constant encroaching of man that these are the animals that need special attention. I also realize that many domesticated animals are abused and abandoned every day and urge everyone to do what they can to support their local shelters and adoption programs. This website is creating a way for lots of people to get in touch with others of a like mind and I think it's great!

I have mom and pop Russian Siberian Cats and 2 of their 5 kittens. I also have 1 domestic longhair that is really too pretty to be a boy, he is Uncle Razzy to the kittens, I am cat sitting my parents domestic shorthair for the winter while they reside in a warmer climate, (I have over 40 inches of snow here while they bask in the sun!!)my household also includes 1 ferret, mom and daughter rotties, daughter is larger than mom and she is only 7 months old...and Marvin a deaf Jack Russell that looks like Wishbone,I rescued him last spring, he knows some sign language and has gone through obedience trainaing...I would like to place him in a new home where he would get more attention than I can give with this household, he deserves the attention, and thrives on it, everywhere we go children say''Hey mom, it's WISHBONE'', he is also neutered and is about 14 months old...
Sorry to see you do not have info on the siberian cat in your breed showcase...I would love to help you out with that...Connie

Our family has 3 cats (a 17 yr. old siamese: my pal; a 3 yr.old tabby; & a 8 mo. old occicat). We also have a 8 yr. old keeshound dog. I have 4 lizards which were brought home by my children last May, 1998. These are known as "Sagebrush Lizards" and are common here in the High Dessert region of Central Oregon. Although I have successfully domesticated them, and they seem to be happy, I am still learning about herps care. I'm open for any info. that you experienced herps fans may have to offer! Even though I have described most of the above pets as to belonging to the whole family, I am their primary caregiver. This is obvious when one sees that they all (except of course the lizards) follow me around the house or check in with me when we're outside. I'm new to PetStation, but it looks like a cool site that I like to check into frequently.

Dear Rephus,
My question is in regards to breeding Eclectus parrots. We have a collection of Greys, Amazons, and Cockatoos. We want to add Eclectus to the mix, but I have heard that Eclectus breed better in colony situations when more than one pair are housed in the same room.
Thus my question. Will a single pair of Eclectus produce young, or do we need to add two pairs of birds to expect any baby Eclectus?
Thanks for your help. Don and Tanya

If I could I would get a new fish but my dad says it would just die again and I would still be sad. If I did get a new fish I would name it after my older one or I would name it Lily. If you have
any suggestions on how to deal with this, E-Mail me.

Currently we live with a big boy - Nikki, a 9 yr. old 100 lb. jet black Belgian Shepard mix. His mom was supposed to be 1/2 of that breed and 1/2 wolf. He is the sweetest, smartest most devoted and loving fella I have ever seen, and at times, the most timid. On New Year's Eve and July 4 we have to really babysit him - he freaks out over the noise. That, and flying insects really get to him. He's sort of a sloth; loves his naps. We take him to Whidbey on weekends, and if the water isn't too rough (waves also scare him) he'll go for a little walk in the tidepools.
I love your site - this is my first day on the Net and I'm so glad I found you! The search is on for the coolest photo to send you - thanks for the fun!

I have a 15 year old cat and two approximately one year old mice. This is my first experience with PetStation so I hope it's a good one. I have a pressing concern about one of the mice. One eye has become smaller than the other and is slightly red at the fur line. I think she might have gotten dust from the pine shavings I was putting in the aquarium. Just a guess. What would help? I have a black cocker spaniel named Alma. I am a huge pet lover, and I love everything from horses and potbelly pigs to gerbils and rabbits! I have always had pets while growing up. I have had several dogs in my life, such as basset hounds, all-americans, cockers, labs, and more! I have had several mini-lop bunnies and one dutch rabbit, along with a handful of budgies, finches, and a cockatiel. I have had hamsters, too, and gerbils. I have also had tanks of fish, from live-bearers to chubs to angels! I have even had a pet lizard, though what kind I don't know as I had caught it as a child and kept it for just under a year. I love PetStation! I found this site through ProLaunch, and I am glad I did! I think this is a wonderful site and I can't hardly wait for more information about our wonderful animal friends!

We live with a "Chug" (Chihauhau-Pug mix), West Highland White Terrior and a 16 year old cat (the queen of our home). This year our 6 yr. old Westie, Max, died of cancer, so we all experienced grief so strongly. We have a new family member - a Westie Pup named "Teddy Bear" due to his loving, sweet diposition and playfulness. Ted is 7 months old, and he is such a delight! He has not replaced our Max in our hearts, but for us it has the right thing to do and has helped us heal. We all feel the West Highland White Terrior breed is just a fantastic little dog!!! Of course, our little Chug, 1 year old Precious, is adorable & loving. Both dogs are best friends and provide real comic relief for us all...even our feline enjoys watching their crazy antics. How sad life would be if not for the companionship of our critters! We would love to hear from other Westie and/or Chug enthusiasts.

Hi there.
I have 2 cockatiels, a dog, & last May I was given a Netherland Dwarf bunny. I absolutlely love all of them. My husband says I get too attached, but that's the way I am. About 1-1/2 years ago, I had a Pearl Cockatiel that I was very attached to, that managed to get outside, & needless to say, I never saw him again. Still to this day, I get emotional about it, even though I have other animals now.I still think about him & wonder where he is, & if he's still alive.I know that no one could love him as much as I did. The only reason he was able to fly, was because I was waiting for his new feathers to finish growing, so I could cilp them all together. Boy did I mess up.

My fiance and I have 3 dogs all mixed breed a 9yr old, 8yr old and a 5 mth old; plus a 14yr old cat. We recently had to put our 14 yr old lasa down because he was not well. That is the reason for our new addition which we love more and more each day. Tequilla is the 9 yr old, Bongo is the 8 yr old and Harley is the 5 mth old. Friskey is the cat. As you can see we just love all animals. PetStation is a great idea!

He is an American Shorthair and looks exactly like the cat on your "All Creatures Files - CATS" page. He is a very lively kitten and climbs on top of all my countertops and tables. He even turns on the TV, turns off the answer machine and shreds paper all over the house.

Hi! I/m Val Magnuson, Poet & Artist and owner of two dogs.
Coney, the daschund and Kimba the White Lion, Pekingnese.
I love dogs! Petstation is cool. And here's a poem for all daschund lovers:
"The Daschund"
The daschunds are a funny race-
They come with plain or bearded face-
Both maxi and the mini size-
Like to snooze and snap at flies-
They come in colors like apple cider,
brown and black
And are true low riders!
Some coats are shaggy-
Some coats are sleek-
Most like a blanket when they go to sleep-
They like to bark, go to parks, and to growl at anythin in the dark.
They have the habit of chasing a rabbit. And if given a chance, they'll surely grab it!
Hunters and thieves these little hounds-
But lots of fun to have around-
And a good name for one- no baloney!
Is to call a daschund coney!

I had four beautiful Orandas, and an assortment of other fish. Hurricane George hit, we lost all our power and the aerator couldnt keep up with such a large tank. I lost all my babies except for my little albino Cory. I know this may seem ridiculous, but I am having a hard time dealing with the death of the 2 biggest-the Orandas. They were hand-fed and loved to see me when I came to see them. They were called Elvis and Biko. I hope they didnt suffer. I reaaly miss them and I put them each in a Baggie, and when I get the hurricane debris picked up I will take them out of the freezer and bury them. I miss you and love you, my sweet fish!~!!!

Pardon Our Dust During Reconstruction
IMPORTANT NOTICE
09-20-98
WBAL T.V. 11 in Baltimore airs a pet question
and answer segment at noon during the week.
The Vet they use owns one of Baltimore's
24 Hour Emergency Animal Hospitals Called The
Falls Road Animal Hospital.
However the Animal Hospital is not all it makes
itself out to be and thats (COMPASSION) to pets
and their owners. NO MONEY DOWN-NO TREATMENT.
You don't see that in his T.V. Commercials or
in his monthly mail-outs.
No one expects a vet or animal hospital to perform
services for free, but to turn away a injured dog hit

Operate a miniature (potbellied) pig rescue/sanctuary in northern/central Virginia...attempting to get additional exposure for the few miniature pig rescue services/sanctuaries. Thousands of these unique pets are being slaughtered and euthanized every week because traditional shelters and animal control facilities are unable or unwilling to deal with abused or abandoned potbellied pigs. Yours is obviously a popular website, and I would like to see a category dedicated to miniature pigs. Contact me if you need any additional information. Thanks

I have two dogs, Kia a Chesapeak Bay Retriever, and Jasper a Springer Spaniel. I also have three cats. Thumper, Baby Beatuiful and Black Spirit. All three of my cats are strays I took in, so I have no idea of their origin.
In the past I had hampsters. I breed them and about 8 baby hammies. Oh they were soooo cute! I hope to be able to afford them again, but they are a little expensive. I hope one day to breed AKA Chesapeak Bay's like my dog Kia.
She is an AKA herself, but was spayed before we got her. I'm a little upset about that, but I still have hope in breeding puppies like her.

Hello, my name is Sugar. I live in Norther New Jersey. I am about 4 years old, I am a white persian cate with a beautifl coat. You could say I am a lover, I love to give little kisses, I love to sit on laps, and I love to cuddle in bed. I get along with other animals and you can play with me all day long. My mom is very busy working and hasn't been able to spend the time with me that I want, so I
haven't been good. I am resenting her for working and really want to find a home where my mom or dad is with me a lot. I am declawed and have all of my shots, she just sent me to the beauty parlor so I am smelling purrfect. Please help me find a new home, I would love to be your new best friend.
Love,
Sugar

I have 8 mixed breeds. My 6 older pups are litter mates and are 10 years old. Polly is 2 yrs and is Dachsound-Pointer mix and my baby is 4 months and a
St. Bernard-Dalmation . All of the names begin with P, so I
refer to them as the P-Pups. I have just started a pet photography business, and have used my guys as models for years.
I haven't visited PetStation yet, but intend to as soonas I finish this.

We love this site, Casey loves to look at all the pictures of the animals; he is 2 years old. We have 4 cats: Maggie, Callie, Smokie, and Fluffy; 1 dog, Brandy and lots of fish.
Fluffy was raised on a bottle, since her mother was hit by a car and the female who adopted the litter had too many to nurse, she thinks she is human and it is hard to tell since
she greets Casey and his older brother Chris with hugs and kisses each morning. She is now two years old and healthy as a "horse"!

Hello, I have 2 cats,1 rabbit, and 2 turtles. My favorite pets are dogs, turtles, Dogs, rabbits, and cats. I think the petstation is pretty good. I have a question I'd like to ask. One of my friends found some painted turtle eggs for me to incubate but the eggs are shapped funny. All of them have a dent in them. Does that mean they are rotted. What I did was I filled half of my tank with sand and burried the eggs in it. I kept the tempature at around 82-84 degreese and I spray the sand every so often. Thank you for listening.

Recently, I had to put my 17 year old Sheltie to sleep. I love all dogs, but Shelties are my favorite and I hope to get another one soon. --I noticed in your canine section where it lists info on breeds, that Shetland Sheepdogs were NOT listed. This breed is wonderful in many ways and popular in the states, but people who don't have experience with the breed need a lot of information on their traits and care before deciding on getting one.
I also have an older, black/white DSH cat. Though I'm allergic to cats in general, I love them too and make certain adjustments in my life to have one, especially when they're in need of a responsible caretaker, like "Sizzle" was.--I have a 29 gallon freshwater aquarium with community fish, like Congo Tetras, etc. and I've had birds & hamsters as pets in my past too.-- I have a more academic interest in "herps", because I think they're better off in the wild than as pets, like other exotic animals. I feel that only zoos and wildlife parks or refuges should take care of these species under captive conditions. Even if born & raised by humans who care, reptiles and amphibians are wild animals, not domesticated to be pets!! Still, I probably wouldn't deny a person's right to keep them, as long as they understand and are capable of taking care of their special needs and/or wouldn't put anyone or their other pets in harm's way where these creatures are kept.
So that's it for me; nice chatting with you all!!

My name is Diane and I need someone's help. On Friday June 5, I was
working when 2 dogs entered the shop where I work. This was at one in the
afternoon.
A passerby said he seen the dogs as early as 6 a.m walking around town.
Both had collars, no tags. One was an Adult "Turner & Hooch" type red male
dog, the other a shepherd mix puppy, no older than 4 months old also a
male. I tried for 5 hours to find someone to take them so they wouldn't
have to go to the pound. I did not succeed. I could not take them home as
I have 7 animals, 6 of which I rescued myself and I have no room. I have
been keeping tabs on them all week to find out if their owners have showed
up and so far nothing. I have also put flyers all over town as well as
newspaper ads. The older dog was very protective of the little puppy. He
was fine all day, laying his head in my daughters lap, letting people
scratch his tummy but when the officer on call came to pick up the dogs he
put the puppy in first which got the older dog upset and when he went for
the older dog it bit him. Now on Friday June 12th the officer wants to put
the dog to sleep because he says it has a history of aggression.????
I am having an awful time with this. There is nothing wrong with this dog
and I am lookinf for someone, anyone to save him. He is located at the
Woodland CA animal shelter (530) 668-5287 and his # is 9876.
Please if there is anyone out there who would want to save this dogs life
please call them before it is to late.
Thank You

I have a Norfolk Terrier female who is ten years old. Last week my son adopted a Daschund female mix who is about a year old. The problem is that the new dog nipsand bites at the other dog whenever they come in contact. Unless we can figue out a way to change this behavior we will have to give the Daschund up, and I really do not want to take it back to the shelter. No the Norfolk Terrier is growling whenever the Doxie comes around. How can I teach these two to live in harmony?

We had a Boston Terrier named Deena who was the love of our lives. She is gone now and we still miss her. She was the most polite little dog and had so much love to give us and that love was returned to her. She had a beautiful life and enriched ours so many times over. How can one little animal take over our hearts and our home? Loyalty comes in a Boston Bull named Deena.

I just resently moved to Miami and am wondering about care for my dog named Sampson. He is half poodle and half Lapsa Apsa. I am presently inquiring about sitting facilities in the area. I do a bit of travelling for work and since I am new to the area I have no one I can leave my dog with while I'm away. I'd be interested in hiring someone on a continual basis to take and look after my dog while I travel. If anyone is interested or knows of who I might contact please e-mail me at the above site. Thanks Alana Melanson

I myself own a 9 month old cat. My parents own two dogs(one shih-tzu and the other is a mixed breed) We previously owned a pekingese that would have been two yrs old this month, however she suddenly passed away this morning. We are still trying to find out what was wrong. She only had symptoms of not feeling well for almost one week before her death. Her symptoms were panting(very shallow),trembling(not sure if these were seizures, but they were at first on and off and then came more frequently and severe),hips(joints) and then her jaw hurt her, the hip seemed like it was falling out of joint. She didn't want to drink water and eat much either. If you know any sites or info we can get a hold of it would be much appreciated. Thank you.

We have a 4 year old Male boxer, his name is Probert(after Bob Probert the hockey player) He does everything with us including sleeping on the bed and watching tv from the couch. In fact he thinks that he is a lap dog. If anyone is wondering what breed makes a great watch dog and is wonderful with children you might want to check out the boxer. They do require alot of love and attention but make great pets.

I have 2 aquatic turtles. A red-eared slider by the name of Noah. The other is a painted turtle by the name of Peter. I really love to study turtles and one day hope to be able to be a breeder of them. For right now though I enjoy the two that I have and I believe they enjoy one another in their 20 gallon tank. This is my first time at PetStation and I plan to scroll around a bit. Not only am I an animal lover of all kinds, but my major is Animal Health Technology at Murray State University. I hope to find a job this May working with reptiles of any kind.

Approximately one week ago, Missy Ash (4 yr old female,
miniature daschund) had premature puppies. Only one survives
at present. Missy was vomiting, unable to keep water (let
alone food) down, diahrea, not eating and lying lifeless in
her bed. Missy was rushed to Pet Emergency Care, Inc. for
treatment. X-Rays showed a ruptured uterus at the odd end
and a dead puppy along with defication floating free in her
abdomen. Emergency surgery was performed. Because of her
critical condition, she was shuffled between the regular vet
during the day and the Pet Emergency during the night for
several days. These vets have said that Missy is a miracle!
I should think so. Her mommy, Terry, and her friends were
claiming God's Word that even the christian's property would
be preserved and taken care of. We are also praying for
funding to pay these wonderful, life-giving vets for their
services as Missy's mommy is currently unemployed and seek-
ing donations to pay these bills off. Pet Emergency Care,
Inc. bill stands at $908.00. The vet is currently $428.40
with another visit scheduled on Thursday next week. All this
money is due on March 28, 1998. Any donations that you would
like to send in would be deeply appreciated. And, if you
include the name and address of another organization, just
in case we have the money left over, we will forward the
money to them. Anything collected above and beyond the total
cost of the medical bills will be donated to the local Friends
of Pets to assist other owners with emergencies.
Please send all donations to: Missy Ash's Medical Fund
c/o Ms. Terry A. Ash

Any questions can be directed to Missy's mommy at e-mail:
